TOP TEN SAFETY TIPS
Falling is the top cause of injuries on construction sites.
Lifting is the 2nd highest cause of injuries on construction sites.
1) Always look where you are walking and keep tools, materials and debris out of travel paths. Never stand under or modify scaffolding, lean on guard rails, step on an unstable ladder or on the top rung, and never leave anything on a ladder.
2) Always lift with your legs, not with your back. Communicate clearly when lifting with others. Never lift and twist.
3) Always make eye contact with the operator before crossing in front of heavy equipment. Never dart around equipment in use or walk under a load that’s in the air.
4) Always protect yourself! Personal Protective Equipment is onsite (gloves, eye protection, dust masks, ear plugs, etc.) along with a first aid kit.
5) Never go topless: Always wear a Hard Hat. Hard hats are required when on scaffolding.
6) Always stay hydrated! Drink water! Hydration is very important, even when it is cold outside.
7) Always look towards the action. We love it when you share photos and post online but but put your safety and the safety of those around you first.
8) Always understand that site conditions are constantly changing. Ask about any specific hazards for today, like slippery conditions, hot weather, safe access around open trenches, etc.
9) Always let us know what’s going on. Please advise your team leader of any relevant medical conditions, limitations or concerns.
10) Never do anything you’re uncomfortable with – talk with your team leader about your personal limitations and they’ll work with you!
