New Construction
Habitat GSF brings the community together to build new affordable homes. Volunteers of all backgrounds take part in this unique experience of working as a team under the leadership of construction professionals and alongside aspiring homeowners. Each volunteer is assigned a meaningful role to play in the project, no matter the skill level. By 2023, the Habitat model of teamwork and community involvement has made over 280 homes possible in San Mateo, San Francisco, and Marin Counties where local families have found stability on which to build their futures.
After a project's "horizontal build" is complete, with the foundation set and site ready for framing, our volunteers come to help. Involvement can be at various stages throughout, allowing them to engage in the gradual transformation of the project while learning new skills or honing old ones. Our staff and regular volunteer crew teach new volunteers everything they need to know. Although the work can be hard, a day at the construction site is always productive and satisfying. Volunteers play an important role in providing the labor that helps lower construction costs and make these homes affordable.
