New Construction/Acquisition and Rehab
Habitat GSF brings the community together to build new affordable homes. Volunteers of all backgrounds take part in this unique experience of working as a team under the leadership of construction professionals and alongside aspiring homeowners. Each volunteer is assigned a meaningful role to play in the project, no matter the skill level. The Habitat model of teamwork and community involvement has made over 286 homes possible in San Mateo, San Francisco, and Marin Counties where local families have found stability on which to build their futures.
New Construction homes are built from the ground up, while Acquisition Rehabilitation homes are existing properties that Habitat for Humanity GSF has purchased and is transforming through extensive renovation and repair. Once the foundation is in place, volunteers become an essential part of the journey. Opportunities to get involved span every phase of construction, from framing and drywall to painting and finish work. This allows volunteers to experience the rewarding transformation of a house into a home while learning new skills or strengthening ones they already have.
Our experienced construction staff and dedicated volunteer crew provide guidance every step of the way, ensuring that volunteers feel welcomed, supported, and confident in their work. While construction can be physically demanding, a day on the build site is always meaningful, productive, and deeply fulfilling. Volunteers play a vital role in making affordable homeownership possible by contributing the labor that helps reduce construction costs. Their time, energy, and commitment directly support Habitat’s mission of building strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter, creating lasting impacts for local families and communities.
