The "Buy Back" Program is an important strategy for keeping affordable homeownership opportunities available in our region. Habitat GSF is able to buy back homes from current families looking to sell their homes for reasons such retirement or downsizing. We repair and resell the home to another low-income family, keeping these affordable homes in our communities.

Scope of Work: Rebuilding fences, painting, landscaping, repairing roofs, decks, and flooring, etc. No experience necessary.

9:15 - 9:30 Orientation and scope of work
9:30 - 1:00 PM Work
Prepare: To be ready for strenuous physical labor, please get a good night’s sleep and a full breakfast before your build day. Please review the Top 10 Safety Tips before coming to the site. Remember to wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty/ruined. If you have your own work gloves and safety goggles to use, please bring them. Although we have PPE available, bringing your own helps us reduce waste as well as our costs. Masks are also no longer required while volunteering at Habitat GSF worksites. Prepare to be outside in any weather with layers and sun protection. In the event of bad weather, call our Construction Status Phone Line at (415) 919-4069 after 7:00 am on your build day for an update. Leave valuables at home, and please watch this safety video to learn about your volunteer day and ways you can stay safe at the construction site.
Contact Tracing: Attendance is recorded strictly at the site to help facilitate contact tracing. Volunteers must report to Habitat staff if they experience Covid-19 symptoms or receive a positive diagnosis within the 2 weeks following their volunteer day. Reports will be shared with others who worked on that day but sources will remain anonymous.
Age Requirement: All volunteers must be at least 16 years old. Minors must have their waiver signed by a parent/guardian.
